Khuzestan is winter Iran: while Tehran freezes, Ahvaz basks at 20°C. The southwest holds Elamite ziggurats older than Persepolis, Darius's winter palace, Sassanian-Roman watermills (UNESCO) and Arab-influenced falafel culture.
